EqualityRespect was founded by sisters Monique Betty and Shantyl Betty in 2008 on a promise to raise awareness about unhealthy relationships and to promote education about unhealthy relationships in schools.

Our commitment is to break the cycle of violence against youth and all relationships.

EqualityRespect was founded on the principle that in any relationship one must be a complete individual on his/her own, who loves and respects his/herself, before he/she can love and show the same respect for someone else. The two individuals should look at each other as equals with separate and unique qualities.

Anyone can be in an unhealthy relationship.

1 in 3 teens will experience an unhealthy relationship.

Abuse can be verbal, emotional, sexual, and/or physical.

Everyone deserves to be in a healthy relationship, whether it is with friends, girlfriends, and boyfriends.

Respect and Equality

The respect and equality necklace represents a relationship. Two distinct and separate individuals, who know and respect his/herself, build a special friendship as one.

Respect

You should be accepted for who you are. Your friends, your opinions, your activities, your clothes, your family, and your beliefs all define who you are. You should always be able to be yourself. No one should have to compromise or second-guess him/herself when it comes to being in a relationship.

Equality

In your relationship, you should be treated as an equal. Your opinions and choices should have equal weight. No one should make you feel like what you say, do, think, or believe does not matter. Your voice should always count.

Are you in a healthy relationship?
